Senior Cost Estimator

GENERAL
DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a world-class leading
supplier of automotive components and systems. The position is located in the
suburbs of Detroit, MI. This Senior Cost Estimator is responsible for the
development of all cost issues related to automotive seating programs.
Interacts with manufacturing facilities, engineering, program management and
account managers to establish estimates of costs on standard and special parts
or products.
RESPONSIBILITIES
 |
Analyzes all quote packages and
develops costing on all components contained within the package. Works
closely with quote team, plant, engineering and purchasing personnel to
establish required cost data. |

Verifies accuracy and finalizes quote
packages. Presents information to plant and divisional management prior to
customer submission. |
 |
Develops and maintains cost reduction
programs and establishes reporting formats based on customer requirements.
Participates in setting targets and pricing to improve margins. |
 |
Contributes to VA/VE initiatives. |
 |
Tracks, audits and compares actual
tooling expenditures to the pre-established budget and reports the status on a
regular basis |
 |
Provides cost impacts for engineering
changes Tracks engineering activity by way of the standard costed bill of
material that consists of: material cost, freight cost, labor cost, burden
costs, all customer formulated value-added and component weights. |
 |
Supports and justifies cost/pricing
structure to the customer as required, under the direction of the department
manager and with the coordination of Sales department. |
 |
Provides purchasing with Target Cost
Goals, drawings, and material specifications as needed. |
 |
Maintains customer submitted pricing
data as required. |
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a technical
engineering discipline or non-technical business related field with emphasis on
cost accounting or finance. (MBA preferred) with extensive exposure to
costing/quoting techniques in an industrial setting and substantial training in
engineered specifications/manufacturing processes.
Experience/Special
Knowledge:
 |
Minimum of 3 years diversified engineering
experience. |

Ability to apply academic and other
engineering principles in the development of automotive components. |
 |
Basic competency in CAD and GD&T.

 |
Working knowledge of applicable
manufacturing processes, Value Engineering, DFA and FMEA. Must be able to
apply academic principles and utilize advanced math-based tools. |
 |
Ability to communicate effectively with all
staff levels, both verbally and in writing. |
 |
Strong organizational skills and the
ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and
changing deadlines. |
 |
Demonstrated successful performance with
independent problem solving, and presentations. |
 |
Proficient skills utilizing word
processing, spreadsheet and database applications. |
