GENERAL
DESCRIPTION:
The Lead
Engineer Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering
principles and analytical techniques to the design and/or development of product
concepts, components, or assemblies. Supervises a small team to meet program
requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts and coordinates the complete development
(i.e. design, build and test) of the designated systems and ensures timing
deadlines are met.

Coordinates design, shop and lab activities.
Leads a small team in the successful completion of the program requirements for
the designated system. Provides regular feedback regarding accomplishments and
areas for improvement to team members.

May conduct Continuous Improvement Reviews as
directed by manager.
|
 |
Develops customer requirements and applies
regulations to the design of the designated systems, ensuring cost effectiveness
and efficiency in design.
|
 |
Creates product specifications in highly complex
products and applies them to designs to meet customer expectations. Ensures
compliance to customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
|
 |
Analyzes system level problems and formulates
engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical
principles.
|
 |
Effectively applies knowledge of manufacturing
processes and engineering tools to the development of the system.
|
 |
Facilitates the DFMEA process.
|
 |
Conducts Design Reviews with plants and suppliers.
|
 |
Makes design sketches and oversees the
design/drafting of the system.
|
 |
Manages design process for robustness and release
timing requirements.
|
 |
Oversees successful completion of all changes (MICR,
PCN, RFQ) for the
designated components in accordance with established procedures and within
established deadlines.

 |
Oversees accuracy and communication of Bill of
Material.
|
 |
Plans build process to ensure timeliness and quality
of components and
assemblies.
|
 |
Manages supplier relations to ensure customer
expectations are exceeded.
|
 |
Develops DVP&R and ensures customer acceptance.
|
 |
Files intellectual property disclosures as
appropriate.
|
 |
Plans and schedules activities to meet program
requirements. Assigns work appropriately to qualified engineering team members.
|
 |
Coordinates and prepares engineering deliverables
related to the assigned system, pursuant to the Product Delivery Process (PDP).
|
 |
Effectively communicates with project team and
effectively maintains all appropriate documentation.
|
 |
Coordinates designs with vendors, manufacturing,
quality organizations and the customer where appropriate. Meets with vendor
representatives regarding design changes or modifications resulting from part
interface or cost reduction proposals.

 |
Manages applicable test and prototype costs in
relation to established
program budget.
|
 |
Consults with engineering personnel regarding design
specifications,
manufacturing processes, legal, safety, and government requirements.
|
 |
Assists company with recruiting efforts, including
but not limited to finding candidates and conducting interviews of candidates as
necessary.
|
 |
Minimum of 7 years of diversified engineering experience to
include an understanding of assembly and component manufacture and proven
ability to lead a small team of engineers.

 |
Ability to apply and utilize advanced math-based tools, academic,
regulatory and engineering principles in the development of automotive
components
|
 |
Competency in CAD and GD&T.
|
 |
Proficient skills in Value Engineering, DFA and FMEA.
|
 |
Ability to communicate effectively with all staff levels, both
verbally and in writing.
|
 |
Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated successful performance
with independent problem solving, presentations, leadership and coordinating and
completing multiple tasks within and across departments to meet changing
deadlines.

Proficient skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and
database applications.
